North Park reached the finals of the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, but just came up short in earning the automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championship, taking sixth place overall.
"It was overall a good day for our ladies," Vikings' head coach Allison Ford said. "We worked hard to get to the finals and our times reflected that in the races leading up to it, but we just didn't have enough to get over the top. Still, it was a great season and I'm encouraged for the fall by what we were able to in our traditional spring season."
Washington College claimed the top prize in the women's varsity 8 finals as they earned the AQ with a time of 7:11.7. Marietta College followed in second with a 7:21.2 and Franklin and Marshall took third with a 7:43.28. The Vikings clocked an 8:41.84.
"The weather was decent, but we did have a few rough patches of water on our last run in the finals," Ford said. "I think that may have contributed to our overall time."
In addition to reaching the finals, seven different student-athletes were named to the Mid-Atlantic Rowing All-Conference teams and All-Academic teams. Both Carsen Miller and Valerie Lee earned varsity All-MARC and Academic honors while Lovely Garcia was named to the Novice All-Conference teams. Senior Heather Ksiazek, Mariya Bayurak, Kathryn Hjelm and Ashleigh Gerlach earned Academic All-MARC honors by having a grade point average of 3.50 or better.
"We finished strong and I'm proud of student-athletes," Ford said. "They got it done on the water and in the classroom and that made for an excellent season."
