North Park held off a late Trine rally to pull out a 63-60 victory over the Thunder, their fifth-straight, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings used a solid rebounding effort, out-rebounding the Thunder 40-27, including 11-7 on the offensive glass to improve their record to 5-1 on the year.
Sophomore Juwan Henry finished with a game-high 21 points, while both Michael Hutchinson and Jordan Robinson had 14 each.
After Trine tied the score at 54-54 on a three-pointer with 4:19 left, the Vikings relied on clutch three-point shooting and converted on four of their final six free throw attempts to earn the victory.
NP led by as many as 10 points after Henry converted a lay-up off a steal with 7:43 left in the first half, but the Thunder used a 12-4 scoring run to close the gap to 27-25 at halftime.
Along with their solid rebounding effort, North Park used a solid inside game to out-score Trine 28-18 in the paint. The Vikings also had 10 second chance points and forced 11 turnovers, scoring 10 points off the mistakes. Freshman Colin Lake added seven points for NP and T.J. Cobbs had five. Will Dixon led the Thunder with 16 points.
North Park returns to action Monday when it hosts UW-Oshkosh, as part of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team, at 5 p.m.
