Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Kevin Shepke

Vikings lose to Thomas More in 2OT

North Park's men's soccer season came to an abrupt end Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament as the Vikings suffered a 3-2, double overtime loss to Thomas More College at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.

Despite being outshot in the match, the Vikings displayed a 'no quit' attitude and nearly ousted the Saints, who were representing the Presidents Athletic Conference with a 17-2-1 record

North Park fell behind early as Thomas More struck in the 17th minute, but the Vikings responded with the equalizer just after halftime when senior Fredrik Greiff put away his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 54th minute. The Saints moved ahead not even two minutes later on a header from Austin Juniet for his sixth goal of the season, but not to be denied NP responded with the game-tying goal to force extra time on a header from freshman Kebba Sanyang off an assist from Carl Damberg.

Although they fired off three shots in the first overtime, Thomas More couldn't gain much momentum as North Park's defense held the Saints in check. It wasn't until the 105th minute that TMC pulled out the victory when RJ Best scored his seventh goal of the season on a shot to right corner from 20 yards out.

Greiff led the Vikings with three of the team's 11 shots while both Stany Lokamba and Nathaniel Paisley had two shots each. Keeper Wesley Woodley made 12 saves, a season-high for the Glendale Heights native.

North Park ends the season with a 13-6-1 record, their 12th-straight season of 10 or more victories, and a 5-2, second-place finish in the CCIW.
