Football loses to Ill. Wesleyan 35-21

The North Park football team ended the 2014 season with a 35-21 loss to host Illinois Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon in Bloomington.

IWU's offense just proved to be too much for the Vikings as the hosts garnered over 500 yards of total offense, including nearly 300 yards rushing in improving their record to 4-6 on the year. North Park ended the season with a 2-8 record.

Illinois Wesleyan seized control with a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter and later a third TD in the second to pull ahead 20-0, but North Park fought back late in the second quarter with a 58-yard drive that ended in a 31-yard touchdown pass from T.D. Conway to Delano Braxton with 6:07 left. The Vikings then closed within two possessions just before halftime at 28-14 after Anthony Burton nabbed a 24-yard strike from Conway to end a 65-yard drive.

The Titans weren't going to be denied on their Senior Day however as they tallied their final score of the game early in the fourth quarter on a seven-yard run from Jack Warner. North Park did add one more touchdown on the day when Devin Childress, who had a freshman season to remember, caught a three-yard touchdown pass, his 14th of the season, ending an 86-yard drive.

In all, Conway completed 27 of his 46 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. He finished the season with 455 pass attempts, breaking the single-season school record for that category. Childress' 14 TD catches this season also tied the NPU single-season school record set by former NFL player, late Paul Zaeske.

Defensively, senior Trevor Forker finished the day with seven solo tackles, and Philip Pendleton had one interception return for 13 yards, to go along with five solo tackles.
