Jordan Wilkins had scored only one goal all season, so it came as a surprise that the junior defender would have his number called Wednesday night against the No. 17 nationally-ranked Vikings.
Wilkins goal ended up being the game-winner however as it stood up in a 1-0 victory for UW-Whitewater, ending a four-game winning streak for North Park which sent the Vikings to only their second loss of the season (9-2).
North Park seemingly had control of the match after overcoming a rough first half where they were out-shot 10-6, but the Warhawks put the lone goal in in the 54th minute when John Gottwald centered a ball to Wilkins off a corner who in turn headed it in the center of the goal mouth.
The Vikings initially could've taken a 1-0 lead in the opening two minutes of the second half when Markus Fodstad took a shot that caromed off the crossbar. Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh then went for the rebound but his shot was blocked as well giving the hosts new life.
In all, North Park fired 13 shots, three on goal while UW-Whitewater recorded 16, with seven shots on goal. Fredrik Greiff led NP with four total shots.
North Park looks to rebound Saturday when it travels to Naperville for a 7 p.m. match with North Central College.
