Chicago, Il., -- North Park Men's Basketball (1-0, 0-0) walked away with a win in their season opener against Lake Forest College last week 93-87, a high scoring affair that saw five Vikings players reach double figures and 21 total assists as a team. For a team with a lot of new faces, that kind of chemistry in the first game is recipe for success.
The Vikings head to Michigan to play their second game against the Alma College Scots (0-2, 0-0) who are coming off back-to-back losses to Ohio Wesleyan University in their opener and Denison University who is receiving votes for the DIII national rankings. Through two games, the Scots are allowing 87.5 points per game while averaging 66.5 themselves; led by Donovan Collins who had 16 points in the first game and Josh Elliot who had 12. Collins, a high-volume shooter, is shooting 43% (6/14) through these first two games, while Elliot came out shooting 4/8 from three in their first game, slipped to 1/5 in the second still showing that he is not afraid to pull the trigger.
For North Park, their first game showed exactly what direction head coach Edwind McGhee wants this year's team to go, forcing turnovers, playing hard defense, and playing together. As stated before, the Vikings had 21 assists which almost doubled Lake Forest's 12, while forcing 16 turnovers on defense ending the game with 11 steals and 3 blocks as a unit. Junior guard Mike Vuckovic and transfer big man Julian Campbell held the reigns with 24 and 21 points, respectively, both having efficient shooting nights.
Tip off for the Vikings' match up against the Scots is at 6pm on Wednesday, November 12th at Alma College.
