North Park fired 30 shots on goal

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The North Park University women's soccer team finished off Homecoming Week on a high note, shutting out the Blackburn College Beavers, 7-0, at the Holmgren Athletic Complex on Sunday.

The Vikings got on the board right away. In the 10th minute, sophomore defender Damaris Cifuentes, off an assist by fellow sophomore Mikaela Mandala, notched her first goal of the season to put the Vikings up by one,  Three minutes later, senior captain Sam Moreno tallied her second goal of the season.

In the 19th minute, Mandala sent a corner kick in that was redirected by the Beaver goaltender - the wrong way - as the Vikings added their third score in own-goal fashion.  Seconds later, sophomore, Mishel Habaci scored her first career goal as a Viking, putting North Park up 4-0.  Habaci went on to mark her second goal of the game in the 39th minute as the Vikings piled on.

In the 45th minute, Moreno put the Vikings up 6-0 on her second goal of the game and third of the season.  The Vikings out-shot the Beavers 34-0 and led 6-0 going into the half.

Moreno led the Vikings with 13 shots and sophomore Clara Wernbo and Habaci followed with four shots of their own.

Halftime: North Park 6, Blackburn 0

Scoring came to a halt until the 72nd minute when Mandala sent an untouched corner kick into the right side of the net for a rare corner kick goal.
