Cross Country teams finish 7th at Weidt Classic

The North Park cross country teams both placed seventh at the Ken Weidt Classic, hosted by Concordia University Wisconsin, in Mequon, Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon.

The Viking men had 187 points and were led by junior Saul Lopez, who returned to the lineup after a slight illness in the season opener. Lopez took 24th overall as he paced the Vikings with a time of 28:13.7. He was followed by freshman Joe Clifton in 34th with a 28:49.1 and senior Ricky Barajas, who rounded out the top-three with a 29:12.8.

UW-Stevens Point claimed the team championship with 31 total points, while the Milwaukee School of Engineering took second with 56. Carthage College followed in third with 89.

On the women's side, junior Miranda Gomez notched a top-20 performance as she finished the course in 25:16.3. Junior Kathleen McCarrick followed with a 23rd overall finish with a 25:21.6 and junior Zoe Larson ran a 26:19.3 to finish 44th overall.

Lawrence University claimed top honors as they finished with 49 points, followed by UW-Stevens Point with 62 points and host Concordia Wisconsin with 67 points.

North Park takes a week to prepare now for competition at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois – the site of the NCAA Division III Regional Meet later in the season – Sept. 25 at 5 p.m.
