North Park suffered its second-straight loss, a 59-54 overtime setback to host Austin College Sunday afternoon in Texas.
Senior guard Annie Shain led NP with 11 points as the Vikings unfortunately let its halftime lead slip away in the second half.
North Park staked an early 5-0 lead after back-to-back lay-ups from Nikki Pryzbyslawski and Nicole Kruckman and later pushed their advantage to as much as 25-13 on a lay-up from Soly Roman with 3:29 left in the half. After Kruckman's three-point play made it a 31-19 affair to open the second half, Austin used a 15-6 scoring run over the next nine minutes to trim the deficit down to 37-34. Two quick baskets – a three-pointer and a lay-up – from Amani Davis put the Vikings back in control at 42-36 but the Roos responded once again, this time tying the game at 42-all with a 6-0 spurt capped off by a pair of free throws. After Shain knocked down a clutch jumper with just under two minutes remaining to put the Vikings ahead 48-46, Austin tied it on its ensuing possession with a lay-up. The hosts then had an opportunity to win the game in regulation after NP missed on two opportunities, but they missed a lay-up as time expired.
Austin seized control in the OT period and never relinquished the lead. A three-pointer from Erin Riley sparked a 7-1 run for the hosts and they held on for the victory. North Park did trim the deficit to 57-54 after a Rehberger lay-up with 13 seconds left, but Austin iced it with two free throws.
Both Rehberger and Rachel Torres finished with eight points, while Davis and Pryzbyslawski had seven each. Christina Kime led the Roos with a game-high 18 points.
North Park (7-3) returns to action Dec. 30 when it hosts St. Mary's University for a 2 p.m. contest.
