North Park split a pair of matches on Day One of the first-ever Viking Clash volleyball tournament Friday afternoon.
The Vikings earned a quick three-set win over Alverno College in the matinee defeating the Inferno by scores of 25-22, 25-9, 25-11 behind an eight-kill, eight-dig performance from junior
Shelby Switzer.
Hayley Brake was also solid at the net as she finished with six kills, and both
Tricia Ivanoff and
Tara Spell each had four kills.
Elise Ervum dished out 15 assists and
Julia Bakken finished with eight digs.
In the nightcap, North Park faced a tough Massachusetts Institute of Technology squad that just suffered its first loss of the season in its earlier match against Benedictine University, but the Vikings were equally as tough despite losing in three sets 23-25, 20-25, 17-25.
North Park (3-3 concludes the tournament tomorrow when it faces Benedictine at 12 p.m. and Marian University at 2 p.m.
