The North Park softball team finished the 2012 season with a doubleheader sweep over visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College by scores of 4-1 and 11-0 on a rainy, cool afternoon Tuesday.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first game, North Park used six hits and plated four runs in the sixth inning to complete the comeback victory. Senior
Melissa Abraham connected for an RBI single, freshman
Meagan Bura delivered an RBI single and
Paige Massa smacked a run-scoring single to highlight the offense in the frame.
Senior
Courtney Lucht earned the victory, her 11th of the season, in the pitching circle as she worked a complete-game three-hitter. She struck out seven batters to finish the season with 84, and walked one in the effort.
In Game 2, North Park all but decided the contest in the first inning as it scored seven runs. Senior
Katie Anderson drove in a pair on a single down the left field line, Bura connected for a two-run single and juniors
Casey Latal and
Sonya Le each delivered run-scoring singles in the frame. NP added single tallies in both the second and third innings, and two more in the fourth on bases-loaded walks.
Latal earned the victory in the pitcher's circle, her seventh of the season, as she worked three innings of the five-inning affair, striking out two batters and walking none. Freshman
Danielle Warner came on in relief and tossed the final two innings, fanning one batter.
North Park completes the season with a 22-18 overall record, the best record under 16th year head coach Dan Gooris.
