The North Park softball team lost a doubleheader to visiting North Central College by scores of 6-0 and 5-4 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action on Senior Day Tuesday.
North Park held a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh of the second game, but North Central came up with five runs on six hits to earn the comeback victory. Junior pitcher
Casey Latal suffered the loss as she moved her overall record to 6-8. She worked all seven innings, striking out six batters and walking two.
After four scoreless innings, North Park struck for three runs in its half of the fifth on an RBI single from senior
Ana Pistilli, and a two-run triple down the right field line from senior
Katie Anderson. The Vikings then added one more in the seventh on an RBI single from Pistilli, which scored junior
Sonya Le, who led off the inning with a double.
Aside from the seventh inning, Latal was solid in the circle as she gave up only two hits through the first three innings and retired five in a row at one point.
In Game 1, North Park was able to record only one hit, a double from junior
Annalis Matta in the third inning. North Central scored two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to earn the victory. Senior pitcher
Courtney Lucht took the loss as she worked a complete-game scattering six hits. She struck out four batters.
In between games, the North Park softball family recognized seniors Pistilli, Lucht,
Jessica Refojo, Anderson,
Jessica Cerese and
Melissa Abraham for the hard work and dedication they've given to the program over the last four years.
North Park (20-18, 3-11) completes the 2012 season Tuesday, May 1 with a make-up non-conference doubleheader with Wisconsin Lutheran College at 3 p.m.
