Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

The North Park softball team split a doubleheader with visiting Augustana College by scores of 8-3 and 5-4, respectively in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Saturday afternoon.

Through the first three innings of Game 2, NP starting pitcher Casey Latal was solid as she retired all nine batters she faced. Augustana's pitching was just as strong giving up nothing until the fourth inning when the Vikings struck for a pair of runs. Freshman Paige Massa connected for the game's first hit on a double to center field. She then came around to score on a Katie Anderson single, and senior Melissa Abraham delivered the second run of the frame on a run-scoring single.

Augustana came up with a run in the fourth on a home run, but NP responded with three more runs in the sixth. Massa smacked her second double of the game, and scored on a double from senior Jessica Refojo. Anderson then delivered her second run-scoring hit of the game, a double to left field and Abraham drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Augie threatened to take the lead and the game when it scored three runs in the seventh, but Latal kept her composure in the circle to nail down her sixth win of the season. In the complete-game effort, she fanned nine batters while walking none and scattered seven hits.

In Game 1, Augie jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. North Park was able to close within a run with a tally in the second via an Abraham RBI groundout, which scored Anderson (triple), but a two-run home run in the fifth and a three-run double in the seventh for Augie sent NP starting pitcher Courtney Lucht to her sixth loss of the season. She worked a complete-game, fanning four batters.

North Park (20-14, 3-7) returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it travels to Illinois Wesleyan University for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
