Box Score

The North Park women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 52-44 win over visiting Augustana College in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Wednesday night.

North Park broke away from a 34-34 tie on a lay-up from senior Roxxanne Jones, who finished with a game-high 22 points, at the 4:51 mark of the second half and never lost the lead thereafter. The Vikings built their lead to as much 10 in the final minute after junior Sarah Peterson connected for a pair of free throws. NP scored 18 of the game's final 28 points to earn the victory.

Both teams couldn't gain much of a momentum in the first half as the largest lead garnered was five by Augustana after a pair of free throws from Molly Etheridge made it a 10-5 affair eight minutes in, but North Park rallied from the deficit and turned it into a 23-20 lead at halftime after a Jones' lay-up, 1-of-2 free throws from sophomore Kamauria Acree, and jumper from senior Becca Heimsath.

Defensively, the Vikings forced 23 turnovers and scored 19 points off the mistakes. NP also held a 13-9 edge in rebounding on the offensive glass.

Peterson added nine points, and Acree finished with six to lead the Vikings. Gianna Pecora led Augustana with 15 points.

North Park (9-13, 3-8) returns to action this weekend when it travels to Decatur for a 2 p.m. contest with CCIW opponent Millikin University.
