Women's Basketball ends season at Wheaton

Box Score

The final score of North Park's women's basketball contest, a 63-52 setback to Wheaton College, was not nearly indicative of how close the game was throughout most of the evening Saturday.

North Park tied the score six different times in the first half and was down only 28-26 at halftime, and the Vikings held their ground through the first two minutes of the second half, tying the score once again at 30-30 on a lay-up from senior Roxxanne Jones. It wasn't until the 17:30 mark of the second half that Wheaton strung together a few baskets and put together a 19-7 scoring run over the next nine minutes that things became somewhat out of reach.

North Park did close the gap to eight in the final three minutes after a jumper from Jones, but Wheaton finished the game scoring five of the game's last seven points to pull out the victory.

Jones was the only Viking in double figures as she notched a double-double, her fourth of the season, of 16 points and 10 rebounds, but NP still left the gym with their heads high in completing the 2011-12 season. The Vikings edged Wheaton in points in the paint and bench points while narrowly missing the rebounding edge at 38-37. Junior Sarah Peterson added eight points and six rebounds.

North Park completes the season with a 10-15 overall record and a 4-10 mark in the CCIW.
