Men's Basketball upends Millikin 62-49

Victory snaps seven-game losing streak

The North Park men's basketball team earned a 62-49 win over host Millikin University in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action in Decatur Saturday afternoon.

After falling behind in the beginning, North Park immediately regained its composure and led wire-to-wire in picking up its sixth win of the season. The victory also snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Both junior Mark Holmes and sophomore Mike Gabriel finished with a game-high 19 points each. Gabriel grabbed six rebounds and had a blocked shot as well.

North Park led 29-15 at halftime and by as many as 23 in the second half after Holmes connected for a pair of free throws with just under six minutes left in the contest.

A total of 13 different Vikings saw playing time, including junior Sam Schwartz, who saw playing time in his second game this season after sustaining an injury earlier in the year. North Park out-scored Millikin 26-14 in bench points, and held a 32-14 edge in points the paint. NP also had a 32-24 rebounding advantage. Matt Merrigan led Millikin with 13 points.

North Park (6-17, 2-10) returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts North Central College for Senior Night at 7:30 p.m.
