It was a record-setting evening for North Park in its non-conference matchup with the visiting Moody Bible Institute Thursday.
North Park defeated MBI 97-20, the largest margin of victory by a Vikings' women's basketball squad in the program's history and the most points scored in a single game since January 9, 2003 when they scored 93 against Illinois Institute of Technology. North Park is also off to a 4-0 start, the best start in the last 10 years.
NP raced out to a 30-5 lead at the 6:01 mark of the first half when sophomore
Annie Shain buried a three-pointer on the right side, and later pushed its lead to 39-5 at halftime.
The Vikings then led by as much as 76 points in the second half, before the final verdict, when
Kayla Scoggins scored a lay-up on an assist from senior
Shaina Yalda with just under a minute and half left in the contest.
Scoggins had a breakout game as she nearly recorded a double-double of 15 points (career-high) and eight rebounds. Both
Nicole Kruckman and Shain added 11 points, while senior
Becca Heimsath was the only other Viking in double-figure scoring with 10 points.
North Park out-rebounded the Archers 51-29 and scored 48 points off their turnovers. The Vikings also had 23 second-chance points and 54 points in the paint.
NP returns to action Tuesday, December 4 when it travels to the University of Chicago for a 7 p.m. contest with the Maroons.
