Box Score
Up until this week, North Park had been sitting with an 0-0-2 record in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin men's soccer standings.
But the Vikings made sure that changed in a big way Saturday night against Millikin as they defeated the Big Blue 6-0 behind a two-goal performance from sophomore defender
Carl Damberg.
North Park out-shot Millikin 34-4, and the Vikings went as many as 23 deep into their bench in earning their seventh win of the season, but more importantly, their first conference victory.
Damberg put away what ended up being the game-winner in the 19th minute when he took a pass from
Mike Herbst and buried a shot in the bottom left corner of the net. Before Damberg scored his second goal however, sophomore
Markus Fodstad gave NP a 2-0 advantage in the 36th minute on an assist from
Jonas Pettersson. Damberg's second tally of the night came on a
Dennis Persson assist in the 51st minute, and
Diego Lashlee made 4-0 not even 20 seconds later when he found the bottom right corner of the net off a
Filip Lindmark assist. Pettersson then added a goal in the 63rd minute, and freshman midfielder
Christoffer Ostberg put away his first collegiate goal in the 67th minute to finish off the scoring.
North Park keeper
Tim Ahlberg earned his fourth shutout of the season as he played 61 minutes and made two saves, improving his overall record to 6-1-4.
The Vikings (7-2-4, 1-0-2) return to action Wednesday night when they host Elmhurst College for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
