If Saturday's Chicago Duals is any indication of how Gabe Nash's sophomore season will be for the North Park track and field team, things are looking supremely impressive.

Nash took second in two different events at the University of Chicago meet, claiming the runner-up spot in the 200-meter dash with a time 23.28 seconds, and just losing out on the top spot to his teammate freshman Willie Sawyer in the 55-meter dash by five-tenths of a second (6.64-6.69).

“It was nice to see those two guys run one-two,” first-year head coach Geoff Masanet said. “We used this meet to prep our team for the bigger meets coming up later this season and they had a very strong performance.”

Also claiming top-ten spots in their respective events for the men's team were sophomore Ben Rico, who had a third-place finish in the triple jump (11.13 meters) and a seventh place in the long jump (5.53 meters). Freshman David Johansson took home a ninth place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 13.53 meters as well.

For the women's team, Julienne Samuels started her final season strong as she claimed a top-five spot in the 200-meter dash, covering the distance in 28.53 seconds as well as a seventh-place final in the triple jump. Sophomore Shanicka Watson earned a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 4.86 meters, and sophomore Olivia Dwight was ninth in the weight throw (11.73 meters) and 10th in the shot put (9.76 meters).

“It was a great way to start the season after last weekend's meet was snowed out,” said first-year assistant coach Steve Imig. “Everybody is working hard towards their personal bests and their making great strides.”

North Park returns to action this weekend when it travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin for the UW-Parkside Open at 10 a.m.
