Women's Basketball upends North Central 62-50

Peterson notches second double-double of season

Box Score

A double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds from junior Sarah Peterson proved to be just what the North Park women's basketball team needed in a 62-50 win over North Central College Wednesday night.

Peterson notched her second double-double of the season, as she collected five steals and three blocked shots in the effort.

North Park was facing a 23-21 deficit at halftime, but it later came back to tie the score at 33 and take a 35-33 advantage, a lead it never relinquished, on a lay-up from senior Roxxanne Jones with 11:49 left in the contest. North Central threatened the lead when it closed within a basket at 43-41 at the 9:24 mark, but the Vikings used a 12-0 scoring run over the next four minutes to extend their lead to 14 after a lay-up from Jones.

NP dominated in every category, including a 12-6 advantage in second chance points. The Vikings also out-scored NCC 22-16 in the paint and forced 21 turnovers, scoring 23 points off the mistakes.

Jones was one rebound away from a double-double as she finished with 19 points. North Park out-rebounded North Central 41-37, including 18-10 on the offensive glass, and shot a blistering 50 percent from the field in the second half. Maryssa Cladis led North Central with 11 points.

North Park (8-10, 2-5) looks to continue its momentum this weekend when it hosts Elmhurst College at 5 p.m.
