CHICAGO, IL (September 7, 2011) – The North Park volleyball team opened its 2011 home schedule with a spirited 23-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-19 win over visiting Benedictine University in non-conference action Wednesday night.

Sophomore Shelby Switzer finished with a double-double of 15 kills and 16 digs, while freshman Aurora Johansen had a career-high 36 assists. In addition, Johansen added 13 digs and sophomore Danielle Waldvogel finished with 29 assists. Sophomore Julia Bakken was the only other Viking to finish in double figure digs with 10.

Both teams played even throughout the contest, but after NP lost the first set, they seemed to re-adjust and keep the momentum in their favor. Junior Tara Spell had a strong net presence as she came up with four blocks and the Vikings had five serving aces.

North Park (3-3) returns to action Friday afternoon when it hosts Concordia University Chicago in the first round of its own NPU Invite at 2 p.m. Friday.
