Women's Soccer Team Defeats North Central

CHICAGO, IL (October 29, 2011) – The North Park women's soccer team finished the 2011 season with a 2-0 win over visiting North Central College in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Saturday evening.

With the victory, the Vikings not only finished the season with a two-game winning streak, but NP finished with a 4-3 record in the CCIW, its first winning record under fifth-year head coach Troy Edwards and its first winning conference record in the last 11 years. Under Edwards' tutelage, North Park has come full circle. The Vikings went 0-7 in his first season, and now were one game away from making their first conference tournament appearance ever.

NP decided things early when freshman sensation Emma Lundeen scored the game-winner, her third of the season and fourth overall, in the 19th minute when she took an assist from senior Sarah Hansen and put a shot in the upper left side of the net. Hansen then finished off her illustrious career with fourth goal of the year when she tallied a shot off an assist from sophomore Anika Johnson in the 28th minute.

In all, North Park controlled the game from the onset, out-shooting North Central 21-7, including 11-3 on goal. Freshman keeper Katie Ibarra earned her sixth shutout of the season and seventh victory as she played all 90 minutes and made three saves.

North Park completes the 2011 season with an 8-8-1 record.
