Men's Soccer Earns At-Large Tournament Bid

Vikings headed to national tournament after a second-place finish in CCIW tournament

CHICAGO (November 7, 2011) — The North Park men's soccer team will begin its quest for a national championship this coming weekend after earning its second-straight trip to the NCAA Division III National Tournament this afternoon.

North Park, which finished the season with an overall record of 11-3-3, and a second-place finish in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), will face Luther College of Iowa this coming Saturday, November 12th, in Decorah, Iowa at 7:30pm.

This will be North Park's fourth tournament appearance since 2005. The Vikings advanced to the second round in 2010, with a 1-0 win over Hope College before losing to Final Four participant, UW-Oshkosh 2-0 in the second round.

Luther earned a spot in the tourney with an at-large bid after the Norse fell to Loras College 1-0 in the Iowa Conference tournament championship game.

If the Vikings win Saturday, they will face the winner of the St. Olaf/Carroll contest taking place at 5 p.m. prior to North Park's match with Luther, Sunday evening November 13 at 5 p.m.

Saturday's match will also be webcasted live online via the Luther College Athletics website.
