Men's Soccer Loses CCIW Title Match

Vikings defeated in overtime by Carthage

CHICAGO, IL (November 5, 2011) – The North Park men's soccer team fell 3-2 in overtime to Carthage College in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament championship game Saturday night in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Carthage scored the game-winner in the 95th minute when Christian Harvey tallied his first goal of the season off an assist from Billy Hamilton.

The Red Men took the initial lead in the ninth minute, but North Park came back with the equalizer six minutes later when senior Kris Grahn scored his sixth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Filip Lindmark.

Carthage then pulled ahead in the 48th minute on an unassisted goal, but North Park didn't back down as it tied the game on a Markus Fodstad goal, his third of the season, on a Lindmark assist.

Junior keeper Tim Ahlberg played all 95 minutes and made eight saves. He finishes the season with a 10-3-3 record.

North Park (11-3-3) will now have to wait for an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament when the selections are made this coming Monday at 12 noon.
