CHICAGO, IL (April 29, 2011) – The North Park softball team ended the 2011 season with a doubleheader loss to Illinois Wesleyan University by scores of 5-0 and 4-1 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on Senior Day Friday afternoon.
In between contests, the NP softball family honored the outstanding accomplishments of seniors Beth and Kate Seebacher for the hard work and dedication they've given to the program over the last four years.
After managing only three hits unfortunately in the first game, North Park looked poised to take the final game of the season. After IWU took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, NP came back to tie it when junior Courtney Lucht delivered an RBI single to left field, which scored sophomore Annalis Matta, who reached on a walk. The Vikings then put two runners with two outs in the fourth when sophomore Brandi Anderson singled and Matta walked, but the next batter hit in to a fielder's choice ending the threat.
NP starting pitcher sophomore Casey Latal once again worked a solid game by not giving up an extra base hit and striking out two over six innings of work, but she was tagged for three runs in the sixth on three RBI singles.
North Park finishes the 2011 season with a 17-19 record and a 1-13 mark in the CCIW.
